Two campers throwing their arms up on AirFlex pads above a mountain valley

Our story

We built the bed we wished we'd had up north.

Uskoo is Finnish for believes. And here's what we believe: the night outside should feel like the reward for the day, and never like the price you pay for it.

Where it started

Night four. 34°F. A pad as thin as a yoga mat.

It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime: two weeks driving north through Sweden and into Finland, sleeping wherever the road ran out. The days were unreal. The nights were brutal.

We had packed a foam pad that let the cold straight through, and an air mattress that took ten minutes of hard breathing to fill and sagged flat by 3 a.m. Somewhere near the Arctic Circle, lying awake on the rocks, we started counting the nights we had left.

On the long drive home we started sketching instead. A pad with the pump built right in, so you never need your lungs. Thick enough to keep your hips off the ground. Small enough to vanish into a backpack. We named it after the place that taught us the lesson.

Designed in France

Three things we refused to compromise on.

  1. 01

The pump lives inside the pad.

Open the valve, press with your foot, and you're done in about a minute. No lungs, no batteries, no separate sack to lose in the dark.

  2. 02

Four inches of air between you and the ground.

Enough for side sleepers to keep their hips off the rocks, with an R-value of 4 for the nights that drop below what the forecast promised.

  3. 03

One pad that does more than sleep.

Flat for the night, raised for reading, folded into a seat for the view. Clip two together and you have a real double bed. Then it packs down to 11 × 5 in.

The road so far

From a Finnish campsite to your trailhead.

  1. The trip north

A bad night, a good idea.

Sketches on the drive home, then a garage full of prototypes. The first one leaked. So did the second.
